Physiotherapy is the study of rehabilitation. Physiotherapists learn the pathologies of bones, muscles and nerves that cause pain and affect function and movement. Interventions in Physiotherapy consist of treatments by mobilizing and manipulating affected body parts, exercise programs to accelerate the healing process and ergonomic advice to avoid reoccurrences. Physiotherapy is a 2nd cycle university discipline (Masters degree).

The first appointment for Physiotherapy takes an average of one hour. Your Physiotherapist first makes a record of your medical history with the help of a questionnaire. You then discuss your limitations and goals. For example, you may give a list of regular activities that your injury limits you from completing (gardening, sports, housework) and what activities you would like to once again be able to participate in.
Your Physiotherapist then proceeds to make a complete evaluation of your pain, your mobility and your strength.
With the help of this information, your physiotherapist will then suggest a treatment plan for you treatment plan that might include interventions in Physiotherapy, exercises to do at home, training sessions in the gymnasium and instruction (ex: postures to avoid, symptoms, etc.).
Following the evaluation, your Physiotherapist will make a detailed report of the evaluation results that will be sent to your Doctor. Follow-up appointments should be expected in the weeks following the evaluation to check your progress and to make adjustments if necessary.
Massage Therapy is a combination of techniques implemented by manual intervention to reduce pain, relax muscles, reduce stress and improve blood circulation. Massage Therapists have knowledge in anatomy and physiology. They can also teach relaxation techniques as well as stress management.
