Maternal Health
With the arrival of a new little one, it is common to feel a great number of difficulties both emotionally and physically throughout pregnancy and following delivery.
These difficulties can be felt on a personal level or can manifest as a result of your newborn having a difficult time adapting.
Physiotherapy can help new mothers at many levels throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period:
- Back pain and/or hip pain;
- Urinary incontinence;
- Preparation for cesarean section (planned or unplanned);
- Post-cesarean recovery (recommended as soon as possible);
- Difficulty with latching and breastfeeding;
- Overall assessment of the newborn: motor skills development, tongue tie, congenital torticollis, and more;
- Guidance for the athletic mother in how to run or jog safely in pregnancy and in the postpartum period (when is it the right time to return to high intensity activities).
Did you know…
- Physiotherapy can help to reduce inflammation and pain caused by breastfeeding.
- Approximately 32% of babies in Canada are delivered via cesarean section.
- Through the proper positioning of baby and mother, latching to breast can be greatly facilitated.
- Many cesareans are not planned and therefore mothers are often unprepared unlike with vaginal births
Physiotherapy can help EVERY mother to rediscover her body and find healing.
