Concussion Management

Early management is the key to a successful recovery!

When we have an injury, we naturally try to rest it. We place ice on it and take a break from sports and activities. Well, concussions are injuries to the brain. We need to use a similar approach, but we cannot simply put ice on our brain. With concussion, we need to rest the brain from any physical, mental, environmental and mostly visual demands. Complete rest is required for the first 48 hours.

Your physiotherapist will be able to provide you with education about rest and how to get out of rest safely. You will receive treatment for any neck issues that can arise. You will also be provided with individualized exercises focusing on the affected areas (vision, vertigo/vestibular, cardiovascular, balance) to gradually build your activity tolerance. Your physiotherapist will help you with a safe return to work, school and sports by using established Canadian Guidelines.

Did you know?

You don’t need to hit your head to suffer from a concussion. Anything that causes the brain to move suddenly inside the skull can cause a concussion. An indirect trauma (falling on your tailbone) or a quick head movement (whiplash) can cause the brain to suddenly move in your skull and ultimately cause a concussion.

Are these concussion symptoms familiar to you?

Headaches, dizziness, nausea, fogginess, light sensitivity, noise sensitivity, loss of concentration, loss of memory, blurry or double vision, altered mood (fatigue, depression, anxiety, short tempered, angered)

Don’t wait, call us today to get a full assessment of your concussion symptoms and get a rapid return to your full function!

Important Announcement

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of our Cumberland location, which will likely occur gradually until July 1st, 2024. After much consideration and evaluation, we have come to this difficult decision due to several reasons, most notably the challenges we have faced with staffing.

The decision to close our Cumberland location was not made lightly. We have explored various options to address the staffing issues, but unfortunately, we have not been able to find a sustainable solution that would allow us to continue operations at this location.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to all our clients who have trusted us with their care over the years. It has been a privilege to serve the Cumberland community, and we are truly grateful for your support and loyalty.

For our clients who still require physiotherapy services, we encourage you to visit our main location in Plantagenet, where our team remains committed to providing the highest quality care. We are also available to assist you in transferring your care to another clinic if needed.

Once again, we thank you for your understanding and support during this challenging time. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
